About the Organization

The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is South Africa’s premier agricultural research institution. The ARC-Animal Production (ARC-AP) division is currently looking for two skilled and motivated individuals to join our team as Artisan Assistants at our facility in Irene, Pretoria.

Job Purpose

The successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining assets and infrastructure, assisting with technical repairs, and ensuring a safe working environment under the supervision of a qualified Artisan.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintenance of Infrastructure: Assist in maintaining assets and facilities to ensure they meet the required quality standards and support core business operations.
• Tool and Equipment Management: Keep tools and equipment clean and in good working order. Assist the manager with inventory levels and tool registers.
• Health and Safety: Follow all Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations. Use safety equipment correctly and keep the workshop clean and compliant.
• Repairs and Installations: Assist with the installation and repair of equipment. This includes work on electrical systems (including 11 Kva lines), plumbing, HVAC, and refrigeration units.
• General Support: Troubleshoot problems, complete job cards, and perform ad-hoc technical tasks.
• Operational Flexibility: Be available to work standby or overtime during emergency situations.

Job Requirements

• National Senior Certificate (Grade 12).
• 1 to 2 years of experience in a wide range of technical or artisan work.
• Knowledge of plumbing or electrical work is a strong advantage.
• Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations.
• Good communication and planning skills.
• A valid driver’s license.
