Role Overview

The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is looking for qualified Artisans to join our team. This role involves maintaining and repairing various systems across public health institutions within the Hessequa Sub-District.

Educational Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must have an appropriate SAQA Trade Test Certificate in one of the following fields:

• Electrician
• Electrical Fitter
• Electrical Cooling Systems
• Millwright

Experience Requirements

The position is graded based on your years of experience after obtaining your Trade Test Certificate:

• Grade A: No previous experience required.
• Grade B: At least 18 years of relevant experience.
• Grade C: At least 34 years of relevant experience.

Key Skills and Competencies

Applicants should possess the following knowledge and skills:

• Familiarity with the Machinery and Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85).
• Ability to maintain and repair laundry and kitchen equipment.
• Knowledge of access control, fire detection, and electrical fencing.
• Basic understanding of building construction and hospital technical systems.
• Experience with HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) equipment.
• Basic skills in welding and plumbing.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Basic computer literacy (MS Word and Excel).

Job Requirements

• A valid Code B/EB driver’s license.
• Willingness to travel and work at various health facilities in the Hessequa area.
• Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, public holidays, and standby duties for emergencies.
• A commitment to ongoing training and performing tasks across different technical trades.
