About the Position

The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) is seeking a professional ATO Inspector for Pilot and Flight Simulation Training Devices (FSTD). The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining high licensing standards, overseeing flight examiners, and ensuring the quality of aviation training and examination centers.

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Development
Develop and implement Civil Aviation Regulations (CARs) and Technical Standards (CATS) for aviation training and flight simulation, ensuring they meet international standards (ICAO Annex 1).

Operational Oversight

• Conduct audits and inspections of aviation training organizations and flight simulation devices to ensure full compliance with safety regulations.
• Monitor the activities of designated examiners and provide recommendations for safety improvements.
• Identify regulatory non-compliance and recommend necessary enforcement actions.
• Provide detailed factual reports following audits and ensure that any corrective actions are completed on time.
• Review and approve Training and Procedures Manuals.
• Support the licensing department by assessing applications for various pilot and crew licenses.

Communication and Industry Liaison

• Represent the SACAA professionally at industry workshops and conferences.
• Collaborate with industry stakeholders to improve training standards and solve practical problems.
• Provide feedback to management regarding industry trends and safety concerns.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• Commercial Pilot License (CPL) with ATPL subjects passed OR a Frozen ATPL.
• Grade II Flight Instructor Rating (or an equivalent SA Air Force Category B Flight Instructor Rating).

Minimum Experience:

• At least 300 hours of flight instructor training experience.
