Job Overview

Pick n Pay is a leading retail store dedicated to serving families across Africa. We are looking for a passionate and energetic Bakers Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will support the bakery department by preparing quality products, maintaining high hygiene standards, and providing excellent service to our customers.

Key Responsibilities

Product Preparation & Merchandising

• Follow recipe manuals strictly to prepare bakery products using metric units.
• Organize and display products in a visually appealing way according to store guidelines.
• Ensure categories are kept together to make it easy for customers to shop.

Customer Service

• Give customers your full attention and provide friendly, helpful service.
• Answer questions about products and direct customers to managers when necessary.
• Actively promote bakery sales to help the department meet its goals.

Hygiene and Housekeeping

• Follow "clean-as-you-go" procedures to ensure food safety.
• Perform deep cleaning after production to prevent contamination and pests.
• Keep all bakery equipment clean and in good working condition.
• Report any equipment faults or safety risks to the manager immediately.

Administration & Planning

• Help track daily sales, customer orders, and wastage.
• Assist in drafting the daily production plan based on sales data.
• Participate in on-the-job training and work effectively within a team.

Requirements

• Must have a Matric certificate.
• Must reside close to the store.
• Must not have an allergy to flour.
• Ability to work with metric measurements for recipes.
• Excellent personal hygiene and high energy levels.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for baking.
• Ability to learn new information quickly and follow safety procedures.
• Knowledge of food safety standards and basic health and safety regulations.
