About the role

The Data Analyst II position exists to unlock value from data by turning complex information into clear, meaningful insights that support smarter business decisions. You will work closely with stakeholders across the organisation to identify trends, solve problems, and help Capitec become a truly insights‑driven bank.

Key responsibilities

• Transform complex data into actionable insights that support business strategy and performance.
• Lead and contribute to end‑to‑end data analysis projects that drive measurable business impact.
• Analyse large, complex datasets using advanced tools and statistical methods.
• Partner with cross‑functional teams (finance, marketing, IT, etc.) to understand business needs.
• Build clear, compelling dashboards and visualisations for decision‑makers.
• Communicate findings and recommendations to non‑technical stakeholders in a clear, practical way.
• Apply knowledge of financial products, regulations, and industry trends to data analysis.

What we are looking for

• An Honours degree in Analytics, STEM, or a related field with at least 5 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in the same areas with at least 8 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in data analysis, with a significant portion in the financial services or banking sector.
• Proven track record of leading data analysis projects and driving business impact through data insights.
• Experience using advanced data analysis tools and software such as SQL, Python, R, Tableau, or Power BI.
• Ability to perform complex data analysis and statistical modelling.
• Experience guiding and providing subject‑matter expertise to cross‑functional teams.
• Strong communication skills for presenting findings to non‑technical audiences.
• Understanding of various financial products, services, industry trends, and compliance requirements.

Qualifications

• Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in Analytical/Data/Technical or related field.
• Ideal: Honours Degree in Analytical/Data/Technical or related field.

Skills

• Advanced proficiency in writing complex SQL queries and optimizing performance.
• Expertise in advanced Excel functions, including macros and VBA.
• Proficiency in creating advanced visualisations and dashboards using Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools.
• Advanced skills in Python or R, including data manipulation (pandas, numpy) and visualization libraries (matplotlib, seaborn).
• Strong understanding of statistical methods and their application in financial data analysis.
• Knowledge of predictive analytics techniques and risk analysis methods in financial services.
• Ability to model data effectively.
• Excellent analytical, communication, problem‑solving, and project‑management skills.
