About the Role

The Eastern Cape Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) is responsible for managing and maintaining provincial government assets. We are looking for a dedicated Chief Artisan to oversee technical services, ensure infrastructure quality, and manage maintenance projects across the region.

Job Specifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years post-qualification experience as an Artisan or Artisan Foreman.
  • Qualification: Matric and a relevant Trade Test Certificate within the built environment.
  • Licensing: A valid driver’s license is required.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Management and Quality Assurance

  • Lead and guide technical services in the field and within workshops.
  • Ensure all work meets statutory safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide quality assurance to ensure all projects align with technical specifications.
  • Oversee the maintenance and servicing of technical equipment and provincial infrastructure.

2. Administrative and Operational Planning

  • Contribute to the departmental budgeting process.
  • Compile and submit detailed technical reports and operational plans.
  • Maintain and update technical databases.
  • Monitor expenditure trends to ensure effective financial management.

3. People Management and Development

  • Supervise and mentor subordinates to help them grow their technical expertise.
  • Develop work plans and conduct regular performance reviews.
  • Identify training needs and manage human and physical resources effectively.
