Dis-Chem Pharmacies seeks a dedicated Merchandiser for our Noordhoek store. The successful candidate will ensure the effective execution and maintenance of basic Dis-Chem merchandising standards while providing excellent customer service.

Job Description

  • Restock merchandise promptly to maximize sales opportunities.
  • Ensure delivered stock and stock pulled from the storeroom is stored and packed correctly and on time.
  • Verify stock on shelves is within its sell-by date.
  • Maintain full product range availability on shelves at all times.
  • Implement regular stock rotation (FIFO - First In, First Out) on shelves.
  • Report low stock levels, out-of-stocks, damaged stock, and expired stock to management.
  • Assist with stock counting and general stocktaking procedures.
  • Adhere strictly to Dis-Chem's operating standards, store layout, and planograms.
  • Ensure all boxes are flattened after unpacking and stored in designated areas.
  • Maintain neat, visible, and well-presented shelves with correct labels and pricing.
  • Report any price discrepancies to management.
  • Stay informed about current and new products.
  • Build, stock, and maintain merchandising displays regularly.
  • Ensure daily physical upkeep of store and merchandise displays. Maintain designated stock in storeroom and on the shop floor.
  • Assist with loading and unloading stock deliveries.
  • Ensure items without barcodes are clearly marked.
  • Assist with back shopping tasks.
  • Contribute to training new staff members.
  • Provide friendly, helpful, and courteous assistance and advice to all customers.
  • Follow up with customers on out-of-stock items using the customer service out-of-stock list.
  • Resolve all customer stock queries effectively.
  • Wear the correct uniform and badge at all times.
  • Minimize losses through careful handling of merchandise.
  • Adhere to Dis-Chem policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and health and safety regulations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Essential: Grade 12 / Matric qualification.
  • Essential: Up to 6 months of retail experience.
  • Essential: Computer literacy, specifically proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Essential: Willingness and ability to work retail operating hours.

Advantageous Requirements

  • Advantageous: At least 1 year of retail experience.

  • Essential: Strong command of the English language.
  • Essential: Presentable appearance.
  • Essential: Effective engagement with customers, management, and staff.
  • Essential: Trustworthy and honest character.
  • Essential: Good time management skills.

Advantageous Competencies

  • Advantageous: Bilingual proficiency.
  • Advantageous: Knowledge of merchandising standards and the FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) industry.
  • Advantageous: Strong product and category knowledge.
  • Advantageous: Ability to analyze ZMORE reports for ordering and stocktaking purposes.
  • Advantageous: Ability to report bad or suspicious behavior involving staff or customers.

Special Conditions of Employment

  • Essential: Willingness and ability to work retail operating hours.
  • Essential: Physically fit and able to lift and move heavy boxes while adhering to health and safety standards.
  • Essential: Reliable personal transport or residence in close proximity to the store.
  • Essential: South African citizenship.
  • Essential: Clear credit and criminal record checks.
