Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a qualified and experienced Pharmacist to join their team at the Musina store. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality pharmaceutical care, ensuring patient needs are met with professionalism and accountability.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric qualification
  • BPharm or equivalent qualification
  • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in the pharmaceutical field
  • 2-3 years of retail pharmacy experience (including as a student or intern)
  • Computer literacy, proficient in MS Office applications

Advantageous Qualifications

  • Relevant retail or FMCG experience
  • Knowledge of a third additional language
  • SAP (System Applications and Products) experience
  • E-scripting experience
  • Registered tutor status
  • Unisolv experience

Duties and Responsibilities

The Pharmacist will provide pharmaceutical care by taking responsibility for patients' medicine-related needs and being accountable for meeting these needs. Key duties include:

  • Evaluating patients' medicine-related needs, including determining the indication, safety, and effectiveness of therapy
  • Dispensing medicines and scheduled substances based on prescriptions from authorised prescribers
  • Signing off and checking all prescriptions prepared by assistants or interns, accepting accountability for correctness
  • Furnishing information and advice to patients regarding medicine use
  • Determining patient compliance with therapy and following up to ensure needs are met
  • Providing pharmacist-initiated therapy
  • Compounding, preparing, or packaging medicines under supervision
  • Manufacturing medicines or scheduled substances under supervision
  • Purchasing, importing, storing, supplying, or selling medicines under supervision
  • Applying for medicine registration according to the Medicines Act and Pharmacy Act
  • Formulating medicines for registration
  • Distributing medicines
  • Re-packaging medicines
  • Initiating and conducting pharmaceutical research and development
  • Promoting public health

Additional responsibilities encompass:

  • Accurately interpreting scripts and acting professionally within legal requirements
  • Capturing script details accurately and verifying patient details on the system
  • Ensuring accurate picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medication, with awareness of dosages and drug interactions
  • Providing accurate instructions to patients on medicine use
  • Keeping abreast of changes in medical aid procedures and requirements
  • Advising and assisting patients at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front-shop
  • Following up on script tracking reports and appointments as requested
  • Explaining medical aid costs to patients
  • Following through on customer promises
  • Evaluating disease conditions and referring to in-store health facilities when necessary
  • Processing paperwork for accurate medical aid claims submission
  • Correcting errors on rejected medical aid scripts
  • Authorising chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication
  • Maintaining customer profiles on the system
  • Merging profiles locally and notifying Vexall for central merging
  • Noting messages on customer profiles and taking suitable action
  • Assisting the Dispensary Manager to ensure administration functions are correct and timely
  • Reporting on low/out-of-stock levels and stock errors
  • Facilitating bi-annual stock takes
  • Exercising stock, cash, and asset control
  • Assisting the Dispensary Manager to ensure stock control processes are adhered to and registers are up to date
  • Maintaining housekeeping standards according to Dis-Chem standards
  • Adhering to Dis-Chem policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Adhering to Health and Safety rules and regulations
  • Adhering to Dis-Chem uniform and personal appearance policy
