The Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (LDARD) focuses on the strategic distribution and efficient use of resources to support the agricultural sector and achieve government development objectives.

Role Overview

The Department is seeking a qualified Driver Operator to manage specialized equipment and provide essential transportation services within the Sekhukhune District. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating heavy machinery, maintaining vehicle safety, and supporting work teams in the field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate specialized machinery and equipment efficiently.
  • Load and offload goods and equipment safely.
  • Perform regular inspections and maintenance of machinery and report any defects.
  • Maintain accurate logbooks and trip records for all vehicles and machinery.
  • Ensure all safety and precautionary measures are followed during operation.
  • Clean and lubricate equipment to ensure long-term functionality.
  • Perform road maintenance tasks, including the grading of gravel roads.
  • Transport work teams, materials, and equipment to various sites.
  • Identify and perform minor mechanical repairs (checking oil, fuel, tires, and water levels).

Requirements

  • An NQF Level 3 (Grade 10) certificate, ABET, AET, or an equivalent recognized qualification.
  • A valid driver’s license and a valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in driving and operating specialized equipment.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • In-depth knowledge of operating specialized equipment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
  • Ability to read and write for record-keeping and logbook completion.
  • Good eyesight and physical ability to inspect vehicles.
  • Ability to interpret and follow operating manuals, maintenance charts, and safety instructions.
