**Role Overview:**
Reporting to the MRM Manager or nominee, the successful candidate will be responsible for planning and managing all geological activities at the mine. This includes ensuring computerized operations, producing resource models aligned with SAMREC standards, providing mine planning services, executing exploration projects, and managing the drill team.
**Minimum Educational Requirements:**
- Grade 12 / Standard 10 Certificate
- Bachelor of Science Honours: Geology or B-Tech in Geology
- Member of Geological Society of South Africa (GSSA)
- Member of South African Council of Natural and Applied Sciences Professional (SACNASP)
- Code 08 (B) Driver's Licence
- **Advantageous:** Masters in Geology
**Experience (including but not limited to):**
5 – 8 years extensive practical experience in geology and mining.
**Key Responsibilities & Duties:**
**Financial Perspective:**
- Compile budgets integrating with the life of mine.
- Allocate budget for exploration, drilling, and modelling.
- Authorize annual departmental budget (operational, capex, and labour).
- Manage function/department objectives within approved budgets, reporting variances and implementing remedial actions.
- Authorize payments within approved budget and policy.
- Manage contractors to adhere to budget and avoid wasteful expenditure.
**Internal Business Processes / Technical Perspective:**
- Align mining strategy short- and long-term with the Life of Mine.
- Conduct mine optimization using data for planning and managing grade ore.
- Coordinate labour within the department to ensure protocol compliance.
- Report production by collecting data on mining locations, resources, and reserves.
- Ensure departmental compliance with policies.
- Manage prospecting, exploration, and drilling to inform reserves and collect samples.
- Manage risk during drilling and mapping.
- Develop and implement improvement initiatives, standards, codes, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure efficient management of interfaces impacting production objectives, including maintenance.
- Ensure ore is mined according to quality and diluted as necessary.
- Eliminate fall of ground.
**Mine Planning:**
- Provide inputs and assistance with mine planning.
- Ensure drill plan scheduling is on plan.
- Conduct mineral resource and reserve modelling, evaluations, calculations, and reporting.
- Conduct mineral resource grade and tonnage prediction, monthly and weekly reconciliation, and predictions. Compile license application.
- Conduct geological interpretation and modelling. Update geological data continuously.
**Geological Data Control:**
- Provide geological reports. Prepare geological plans, sections, and data packages.
- Manage geological core logging database.
- Perform geostatistical evaluation, block modelling, mine design, and resource/reserve reporting.
- Support operators on site using Leapfrog / Datamine / SABLE software.
**Mine Geology:**
- Manage Geological core logging database.
- Manage and approve drillhole operations schedule.
- Conduct mineral resource calculations and reporting.
- Conduct mineral resource dimensions modelling with grade and tonnage prediction.
- Conduct mineral resource, production, and mining calculations and reporting.
- Conduct mineralogical investigations. Conduct geophysical / geochemical and mineralogical duties.
**Customer / Stakeholder Relations Perspective:**
- Build, manage, and maintain healthy internal relations (Peer, Unions, Team, Organisation), implementing remedial actions.
- Maintain internal and external relations to meet functional needs and ensure employee satisfaction.
- Provide specialized technical support to stakeholders.
**Organisational & Growth Perspective:**
- Manage and review subordinate performance, discussing gaps and improvement plans.
- Ensure high levels of discipline through people-related policies.
- Coordinate innovation and ensure team training.
- Promote teamwork, support, manage, and evaluate performance by creating individual development plans and performance contracts.
- Ensure relevant information is distributed for informed decisions.
- Perform fair and reasonable tasks.
- Reclassify resources and report.
**SHERQ Adherence / Compliance:**
- Promote adherence to safety, health, and environmental practices.
- Identify and address unsafe situations.
- Serve as department safety representative.
- Translate SHERQ goals into clear direction and implement.
- Ensure adherence to statutory safety regulations and mine standards.
- Communicate new regulations and procedures for awareness and correct implementation.
**Implement Change Initiatives:**
- Authorise and drive initiatives to eliminate waste, improve productivity, and reduce costs.
- Initiate and lead functional/departmental change.
- Implement successful change initiatives, planning, and optimal resource utilisation.
**Statutory Compliance:**
- Ensure compliance with legislation by achieving procurement targets in terms of Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment and Mining Charter requirements.
