OR Tambo District Municipality is located in the Wild Coast Region of the Eastern Cape. We are looking for four dedicated Environmental Health Practitioners to join our team in Mthatha.

Job Overview

• Job Type: Full Time
• Location: Mthatha, Eastern Cape
• Salary: R 405,175.50 – R 525,942.27 per year (Basic salary, excluding benefits)
• Reporting to: Chief Environmental Health Practitioner

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:

• Grade 12 certificate.
• National Diploma in Environmental Health (a Degree will be an advantage).
• Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
• At least 2 years of experience in Environmental Health or a related field.
• A valid Code B Driver’s License.
• Proficiency in using computers.
• Certificates as a Peace Officer or in Customer Care will be considered an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

As an Environmental Health Practitioner, your duties will include:

• Water Quality: Monitoring water sources and enforcing laws to ensure safe water supply.
• Food Safety: Inspecting food and hygiene standards to ensure all food is safe for public consumption.
• Waste Management: Monitoring general hygiene and waste disposal practices.
• Health Surveillance: Inspecting premises to ensure they comply with health and safety laws.
• Disease Prevention: Monitoring and preventing the spread of communicable diseases.
• Vector Control: Monitoring pests and insects that can spread disease.
• Pollution Control: Identifying and managing environmental pollution to ensure safe living and working conditions.
• Disposal of the Dead: Inspecting funeral homes and monitoring practices at cemeteries and crematoriums.
• Chemical Safety: Monitoring the safe use and handling of chemicals.
• Education: Leading health awareness and education programs for the community.
