About the Overberg District Municipality

The municipality manages several key areas, including the towns of Grabouw, Caledon, Hermanus, Bredasdorp, and Swellendam. Position Overview

We are looking for a dedicated and physically fit individual to join our fire services team as a Firefighter. This role is essential for protecting lives and property through fire suppression, rescue operations, and emergency medical assistance.

Requirements

• Education: Grade 12 (Matric) or higher.
• Experience: At least two years of continuous experience as a Learner Firefighter or Firefighter within a municipal or designated fire service.
• Certifications:
  • Fire Fighter 1 Certificate
  • Hazmat Awareness Certificate
  • First Aid Level 3 Certificate
• License: A valid Code C1 driver’s license.
• Health and Fitness: Must be physically and mentally fit, meeting the NFPA 1582 medical standards.
• Language: Ability to communicate effectively in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.
• Record: A clean criminal record is required.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform firefighting operations and rescue missions to save lives and protect property.
• Provide Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and handle incidents involving hazardous materials.
• Assist with humanitarian services, including animal rescues and aid during floods, storms, or disasters.
• Take command of small to medium-sized incidents and fires.
• Participate in fire prevention activities and public safety education programs.
• Maintain vehicles and equipment to ensure they are always ready for emergency use.
