About the Company

The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) is an agency of the Department of Transport. Established to oversee civil aviation safety and security, SACAA ensures that the aviation industry in South Africa operates according to international standards and national laws.

Role Overview

The Forensic Services Trainee will support the Forensic Services Department in reducing the impact of financial crime and misconduct. This role involves conducting high-quality investigations to protect SACAA’s assets and interests while providing professional forensic services to internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Fraud Prevention and Awareness

  • Help identify areas where fraud risk management can support departmental goals.
  • Assist in organizing fraud awareness training and campaigns.
  • Promote the use of the official fraud hotline and internal audit services.

Investigations and Operations

  • Conduct forensic investigations according to established standards.
  • Follow up on reports received through the fraud hotline.
  • Conduct interviews, take statements or affidavits, and collect physical evidence.
  • Analyze information and research findings to support investigation cases.
  • Provide regular progress updates to the Senior Manager.
  • Compile detailed forensic investigation reports.

Evidence and Documentation

  • Maintain a clear chain of custody for all evidence collected.
  • Document the flow of information and transactions for each case.

Corrective Action and Support

  • Prepare evidence to support recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Present evidence during disciplinary tribunals or legal proceedings.
  • Assist in liaising with law enforcement agencies.
  • Support the internal audit team with special projects or unscheduled forensic activities as needed.

Requirements

Education

  • Minimum: National Diploma (NQF level 6) in Forensic Investigation, Forensic Auditing, Law, or a related field.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF level 7) in a relevant field. Being a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) is an added advantage.

Experience

  • At least 1 year of experience in Forensic Investigation, Fraud Management, or Fraud Risk Assessment.
