Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION

  • The incumbent is responsible for planning, organizing, conducting, and managing effective Housekeeping and laundry in the hospital.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
The key performance areas in which the incumbent is expected to demonstrate proficiency are as follows:

  • Manage linen and laundry requirements.
  • Manage and maintain the consumption and distribution of consumable items.
  • Manage and monitor waste service delivery compliance and escalate service failures.
  • Conduct daily housekeeping rounds and address identified issues promptly.
  • Manage outsourced services and maintain Service level agreement (SLA) compliance.
  • Supervise staff and coordinate staff activities.
  • Maintain accurate stock Control, Inventory and reconciliation of stock items.
  • Manage the condemning and scrapping process.
  • Ensure overall hospital housekeeping standards meet regulatory and internal benchmarks.
  • Coordinate uniform distribution and availability for all hospital staff and maintain accurate inventory and replacement schedules.
  • Preparation and follow through of relevant motivations.
  • Support cost control initiatives and budget adherence.
  • Maintain accurate audit records.

COMPETENCIES (The following will be advantageous)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

(Educational Qualifications & Experience)

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Basic knowledge of housekeeping practices and procedures.
  • Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare environment will be an advantage.

SKILLS
(Practical & Technical)

  • Understanding and application of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) principles, including adherence to isolation procedures and workplace safety protocols.
  • Knowledge of waste management practices, including the safe segregation, handling, and disposal of general, clinical, and hazardous waste, as well as proper recordkeeping.
  • Ability to monitor and manage linen usage effectively, including tracking issued, used, and returned items, identifying discrepancies, and overseeing processes such as condemning and procurement.
  • Competence in spill management, including the safe and effective handling of biohazardous spills in accordance with safety guidelines.
  • Ability to follow cleaning schedules, task lists, and checklists accurately and consistently, ensuring compliance with hygiene and quality standards.
