Role Purpose

As an Inspector for Air Traffic Services (ATS), you will be responsible for the oversight, certification, and monitoring of air traffic service providers. You will ensure that all operations comply with national regulations and international safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

Oversight and Inspections

  • Develop annual inspection schedules for Air Traffic Service Units (ATSUs).
  • Conduct initial, renewal, and surveillance inspections of service providers.
  • Follow up on inspection findings and recommend enforcement actions when necessary.
  • Regulate airspace activities and perform duties related to the NASCOM Secretariat.

Approvals and Certification

  • Review service provider documents, such as Safety Management Systems (SMS) and Manuals of Procedure (MOP).
  • Process certifications and approvals for industry stakeholders.
  • Assess safety evaluations and provide formal recommendations.
  • Evaluate applications for Designated Examiners and participate in the ATS Review Board.

Administration and Reporting

  • Compile monthly reports and maintain an organized document management system.
  • Adhere to Service Level Agreements (SLAs) when handling industry queries.
  • Collect and analyze traffic movement and incident statistics to identify trends.

Safety Promotion and Liaison

  • Participate in safety workshops, seminars, and SACAA initiatives.
  • Publish information aimed at enhancing aviation safety.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders regarding NASCOM functions and participate in international aviation meetings.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to other SACAA divisions and regional entities.

Requirements

  • Education: Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Licensing: Valid Air Traffic Control License with Aerodrome and Approach (Procedural & Surveillance) ratings, OR Aerodrome and Area (Procedural & Surveillance) ratings.
  • Ideal Qualifications: An Instructor’s rating, Designated Examiner status, or an Internal Auditing Certificate is highly preferred.

Experience

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in Air Traffic Operations.
  • Experience in aviation committees, regulation development, internal auditing, or incident investigation is considered an advantage.
