Role Overview

We are looking for a highly skilled Principal Professional Officer to lead our Coastal Capital Programmes. In this role, you will provide strategic guidance and professional oversight for the planning, design, and implementation of coastal infrastructure projects. Your work will ensure that the city develops and maintains high-quality, sustainable coastal assets.

Requirements

  • Education: A BEng or BSc degree in Civil Engineering. A post-graduate degree in Coastal Engineering is preferred.
  • Professional Registration: Must be registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
  • Experience: 8 to 10 years of relevant post-qualification experience.
  • Technical Skills: Proven experience managing medium to large-scale coastal projects from the design phase through to completion. You should have a strong background in preparing business cases for capital projects.
  • Sector Knowledge: Experience working within local government and a solid understanding of municipal financial and contractual processes is an advantage.
  • General: Proficiency in MS Office and a valid Code B driver’s license.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and manage a framework for Coastal Capital Programmes to ensure projects are delivered consistently and meet organizational goals.
  • Provide expert guidance to ensure effective project planning, coordination, and execution.
  • Oversight of coastal infrastructure designs and providing technical input on development approvals to ensure all new infrastructure is sustainable.
  • Manage strategic business cases to optimize resource use and support informed decision-making.
