Professional Nurse Grade 1 to 3 (General: PHC)

The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is seeking dedicated Professional Nurses to join our healthcare team. Our department is responsible for providing essential public health services to the residents of the Western Cape province.

Job Overview

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have the following qualifications and registrations:

• A Basic R425 qualification (Degree or Diploma in Nursing) or an equivalent qualification.
• Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse and Midwife.
• A valid driver’s license (Code B or EB).
• A willingness to work at different locations, including mobile clinics, hospitals, and within the community.

Experience Requirements

The position is available across three grades based on your professional experience:

• Grade 1: No previous experience required after registration with SANC.
• Grade 2: At least 10 years of appropriate nursing experience after registration as a Professional Nurse.
• Grade 3: At least 20 years of appropriate nursing experience after registration as a Professional Nurse.

Key Skills and Competencies

• A strong understanding of nursing legislation and public sector policies.
• Basic computer literacy, including experience with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• The ability to capture patient data, check medical results, and manage electronic referrals.
• A commitment to high-quality patient care by following established medical protocols and standards.
