Risk Manager– Capitec Bank Ltd, Sandton, South Africa
Purpose:
To provide expert risk management oversight, help build a strong risk culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and support strategic risk mitigation. This role contributes to informed decision‑making and sustainable business performance within the Enterprise Risk Management Framework, offering second‑line oversight of all risk management aspects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Influence and advise stakeholders on risk matters.
- Oversee risk processes across a large organisational unit.
- Lead and plan risk initiatives that align with strategy.
- Develop and manage risk metrics, reporting, and tactical objectives.
- Apply risk expertise creatively to solve business challenges.
- Liaise with regulators and manage regulatory engagements.
- Build and develop effective risk management teams.
Experience Required:
- Minimum 10 years of risk management experience in a senior role, preferably in a financial institution or bank.
- OR experience as a risk specialist in a leadership role with at least 6 years in banking regulations, capital markets, technology risks, and public policy.
- Proven ability to use influence and relationships to achieve objectives.
- Strategic leadership and planning of risk initiatives across a large organisation.
- Alignment of metrics, reporting, and tactical objectives with business strategy.
- Strong analytical, commercial, and decision‑making skills.
- Ability to apply risk knowledge to creative and effective solutions.
- Experience in regulatory liaison and engagement.
Qualifications (Minimum):
- Bachelor’s degree in Risk and Compliance or Law.
Qualifications (Preferred):
- Relevant postgraduate qualification in Risk and Compliance or Law.
Knowledge Areas:
- Understanding of the risk life‑cycle and value chain.
- Expert knowledge of risk management best practices and regulatory frameworks.
