Senior Professional Officer: Civil Engineering

The City of Cape Town is the legislative capital of South Africa and a primary economic hub. We are committed to providing excellent service and sustainable infrastructure to our citizens. We are currently seeking a qualified Senior Professional Officer to join our Civil Engineering team.

Role Overview

This is a full-time position based in Cape Town, Western Cape. The successful candidate will provide expert engineering services, focusing on coastal infrastructure and the development of sustainable projects across the city.

Key Requirements

• Education: B Tech degree in Civil Engineering.
• Professional Registration: Must be registered as a Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng).
• Experience: 5 to 8 years of relevant post-qualification experience in civil engineering.
• Technical Skills: Proficient in civil engineering design and analysis throughout the project lifecycle.
• Software Proficiency: Skilled in AutoCAD (Civil 3D), Prokon, MS Office, and MS Project or Primavera P6.
• Contract Knowledge: Familiarity with JBCC, NEC, GCC, and FIDIC forms of contract.
• Additional: A valid Code B driver’s license and the ability to mentor and transfer knowledge to junior staff.

Main Responsibilities

• Deliver professional municipal engineering services for coastal infrastructure initiatives, including scoping and feasibility designs.
• Manage coastal repair and refurbishment projects to ensure they are fit-for-purpose and environmentally sustainable.
• Conduct specialist studies and assessments to improve city infrastructure.
• Oversee project execution, including tracking, monitoring, and analysis to ensure delivery is on time and within budget.
• Prepare and review technical project scopes.
