We are looking for a dedicated Station Commander to join our team and help ensure the safety of our community.

Role Overview

The Station Commander is responsible for managing a fire station, overseeing three platoons, and ensuring all fire safety and emergency response activities are handled effectively. This role involves leadership, operational planning, and administrative management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a Fire Station and its three platoons, ensuring high performance and productivity.
  • Plan emergency response mechanisms and fire safety activities to prevent and manage incidents.
  • Supervise and lead staff, focusing on their professional growth and skills development.
  • Oversee the transfer of skills and knowledge within the team.
  • Handle general administrative tasks and maintain accurate records.
  • Monitor budgets and expenditures to ensure compliance with financial regulations (MFMA).

Requirements

Education and Certification: To be considered, you must have one of the following qualification sets:

  • A Diploma in Fire Technology, Fire Science, or Fire Safety and Management.
  • OR Fire Officer 3, Fire Inspector 2, Plans Examiner 2, and Operations Division (ICS) Certificates.
  • OR a Higher Certificate in Management Fire Technology or equivalent 4-year tertiary qualification.

Experience and Other Criteria:

  • 7 years of operational experience, with at least 3 years at a supervisory level (such as Platoon Commander).
  • Advanced First Responder certification (registered with HPCSA) is preferred.
  • General computer literacy.
  • Physical fitness to meet the demands of the role.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • A clean criminal record.

Special Conditions

The successful candidate may be required to work at any Fire Station or section within the City of Cape Town’s jurisdiction as directed by the Chief Fire Officer.
