Job Description

  • A well-established, London-based firm specialising in corporate finance, tax, and accounting is seeking a dynamic Tax Assistant Manager to be responsible for managing a portfolio of personal tax clients while ensuring the delivery of high-quality compliance services and exceptional client care. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing personal tax compliance processes, identifying planning opportunities, maintaining professional standards, and ensuring that client deadlines are met accurately and efficiently.

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • Must have a B. Com. Accounting or relevant degree
  • Minimum 4 years' relevant personal tax experience
  • Strong technical knowledge on Tax with the HMRC
  • Must have experience managing a portfolio of personal tax clients within a professional services or accountancy practice environment
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and quality
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment
  • Proactive and confident approach to client service and issue resolution
  • Comfortable working within a paperless, technology-driven environment
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining up-to-date technical knowledge
  • Experience identifying tax planning opportunities and supporting wider advisory services would be advantageous

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Managing a portfolio of personal tax clients, including Self-Assessment and Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax requirements.
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships through regular communication via telephone, email, virtual meetings, and face-to-face interactions where appropriate.
  • Developing a thorough understanding of client requirements and expectations to consistently deliver high levels of client service.
  • Providing ongoing support and guidance to clients regarding personal tax compliance matters.
  • Acting as a trusted point of contact for portfolio clients, ensuring queries are addressed professionally and efficiently.
  • Reviewing and managing personal tax compliance processes for allocated clients.
  • Preparing and finalising accurate and timely personal tax returns, including more complex tax matters where required.
  • Supporting Tax Managers, Senior Managers, and Directors with the review and delivery of tax compliance work.
  • Liaising with colleagues across Audit, Accounting, Wealth Management, and Advisory service lines to gather information for multi-service clients.
  • Applying relevant tax legislation, regulations, and best practice guidance appropriately within client work.
  • Identifying potential tax planning and advisory opportunities and escalating these appropriately to support business development and cross-selling initiatives.
  • Adhering to the firm’s risk management policies, procedures, and professional standards.
  • Recognising potential risks and seeking guidance from senior colleagues where appropriate.
  • Maintaining a strong understanding of ethical standards, professional conduct requirements, and regulatory obligations.
  • Ensuring all client work is completed in accordance with relevant legislation and firm procedures.
  • Supporting, coaching, and mentoring junior team members involved in personal tax compliance work.
  • Acting as an approachable and supportive member of the Tax team, contributing positively to team performance and development.
  • Sharing technical knowledge and best practices to enhance team capability and service delivery.
  • Managing portfolio billing and invoicing responsibilities, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
  • Maintaining accurate client records and documentation.
  • Monitoring personal productivity, utilisation, and time recording in line with firm requirements.
  • Completing timesheets accurately and within required deadlines.
  • Contributing towards achieving departmental and individual financial targets
